Who are Nick and Tua?

The short answer is that it depends.

In Fallout 4 (referred to as Weary Exile, Bright Heart in this context) they are Tua Holloway and Nick Valentine. The WEBH plot spans almost thirty years, and explores the dynamics between an aging machine and a timeless human as they struggle to define themselves in a lawless world.

Nighthawks, on the other hand, refers to an original plot in which the pair live in San Francisco bay in the 1970's. Named Nick Deforest Bishop and Tua Martínez in this narrative, the pair reunite after nine years apart, and try to navigate a budding relationship in the midst of career turmoil.

Both stories explore themes of identity, particularly cultural diaspora and gender dysphoria. It seeks to understand the boundaries of preservation; to draw the lines between penance, self-harm, and forgiveness.

Ultimately, we owe ourselves the privilege of healing.
